Australia and New Zealand are a few hours apart by air and are often booked as one trip, but they are separate countries with separate networks, and an Australia plan does not extend across the Tasman. Both have now closed 3G: Australia in 2024, New Zealand on 31 March 2026. Both also have rules or warnings about imported phones that cannot make emergency calls over 4G. And in both, coverage follows population, leaving large areas of land without any signal.

Plans for each country

On this route

  • Look for both countries in the plan's list. A plan labelled Oceania or Pacific is not a guarantee of either.
  • Using an older or grey-import phone? Check VoLTE support before you go. It matters in both countries since the 3G shutdowns.
