Singapore and Malaysia are joined by a causeway and a second bridge, and many visitors cross for a day in Johor Bahru or continue north to Kuala Lumpur and Penang. They are separate countries with separate networks, and a Singapore-only plan stops at the checkpoint. Signals overlap across the strait, so phones on either shore can attach to the other country's network before you have crossed.
