What to know about mobile data in Switzerland

Switzerland is surrounded by the EU and is not part of its roaming area, which is the single most common surprise on a European route. A plan has to name Switzerland. On the network side, 2G is already gone, and the federal office OFCOM lists Swisscom and Sunrise as decommissioning 3G by the end of 2025, with no date from Salt. Phones without VoLTE lose voice calls on networks that have dropped 3G.

Before you go

  • Check for Switzerland by name before a rail trip from Milan, Munich or Paris. EU roaming allowances stop at the Swiss border.
  • Near Basel, Geneva and Lake Constance, phones can attach to French, German or Swiss masts. Pick the network manually if your plan covers only one side.
  • If you need voice calls, make sure VoLTE is enabled on your phone. Swiss authorities note that some devices need it switched on manually.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest eSIM for Switzerland?

On October 5, 2026, the cheapest plan we found was Yesim with 1 GB, 30 days at $3.00. The lowest price per gigabyte was Ubigi: 50 GB, 30 days at $34.00, which is $0.68/GB.

Is there an unlimited data eSIM for Switzerland?

Yes. 8 of the providers we track sell unlimited plans for Switzerland; the cheapest is Holafly at $3.90 for 1 day. Unlimited plans often slow down after a daily amount, so read the fair-use note on the provider page.

Which regional eSIM plans include Switzerland?

25 of the 69 regional and global products we track list Switzerland: Ubigi Europe, Nomad Europe (35 countries plan), Yesim Europe & UK, Holafly Europe, Saily Europe Unlimited (35 countries), Saily Europe (34 countries), Airalo Eurolink, aloSIM Europe.

Is Switzerland included in a Europe eSIM?

Only if the plan says so. Switzerland is not in the EU or the EEA, so the EU's roam like at home rules do not apply. Providers decide for themselves, and the country list is what counts.

Will my phone connect to a Swiss network while I am still in France, Italy or Germany?

It can in border areas such as Geneva, Basel or the lakes shared with Italy. If Switzerland is not in your plan you will simply lose data until the phone returns to a covered network, so choose the network manually.
