What to know about mobile data in the Philippines

The Philippines is an archipelago of thousands of islands, and coverage varies from one to the next. Opensignal's July 2026 report has the three operators leading in different categories: the newest, DITO, on time connected to 5G and Smart on 5G coverage. The SIM Registration Act requires every local SIM to be registered: tourists do it with a passport and the SIM is valid for 30 days. That law governs SIMs sold in the Philippines.

Before you go

  • Before island hopping in Palawan, Siargao or the Visayas, ask which Philippine network your eSIM uses. One operator can be strong where another is absent.
  • Inter-island ferries lose signal between ports. Download boarding passes and hotel details before sailing.
  • Grab works in Manila and Cebu. On smaller islands transport is arranged in person, so data matters more for maps than for apps.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest eSIM for the Philippines?

On October 5, 2026, the cheapest plan we found was Ubigi with 1 GB, 7 days at $3.50. The lowest price per gigabyte was Nomad: 50 GB, 30 days at $45.00, which is $0.90/GB.

Is there an unlimited data eSIM for the Philippines?

Yes. 7 of the providers we track sell unlimited plans for the Philippines; the cheapest is Holafly at $3.90 for 1 day. Unlimited plans often slow down after a daily amount, so read the fair-use note on the provider page.

Which regional eSIM plans include the Philippines?

23 of the 69 regional and global products we track list the Philippines: Ubigi Asia, Ubigi Best Asia, Holafly Asia, Airalo Asialink, Nomad APAC (14 countries plan), aloSIM Asia, Ubigi Best World, Nomad APAC (21 countries plan).

Do I need to register a travel eSIM under the SIM Registration Act?

The Act covers SIMs issued by Philippine operators, which tourists register with a passport for a 30-day validity. A travel eSIM issued abroad is a foreign roaming line. If your provider asks for ID, that is its own process.

Will I have data on the smaller islands?

Usually in the main town and tourist beaches, less so elsewhere. Coverage is uneven between operators, so the network behind your plan makes a real difference outside Manila and Cebu.
